Has anyone dealt with serious World of Warcraft addiction?

Hello, I have a daughter who has always been on the heavy side. She was in college after graduating h.s., but dropped out without notice to play World of Warcraft full time! (currently she is 20) She dropped out of life, is over 450 lbs, does nothing but play that game 24/7, and is talking of quitting her 11 hour a week job! She is hoping to have gastric bypass to fix her weight, however has done nothing to make life changes. I am going to pull the plug on the internet at my house, (affecting us who are NOT addicted)...has anyone out there dealt with this degree of illness? I need serious suggestions.

 

I am a 21 year old woman and I play world of warcraft. I do however have a full time job, take care of my responsiblites, etc before playing. When people play that game they have to be "responsible" players. A lot of people just get consumed by the game and forget the outside world. I only play maybe twice a week for a couple hours.

If you are not wanting to cut off the internet, I suggest putting a password on the computer that only you and your husband know. That can limit her playing the game and only play when you want her to. Since she is still under your roof it is technically your computer, your internet, your house, your rules. She will get very upset because people who are addicted to World of Warcraft get really upset when its taken away. Just tell her that she has to take care of her responsibilties before playing the game. Maybe limit her to a couple nights a week like a tuesday and thursday and then 1 weekend day for a couple more hours than the weekdays.

I also suggest telling her that if she does not keep up with her job then she will not get the computer unlocked at all. Good luck!!!

 

Best Answer:  Good wisdom MOM...Getting rid of the computer connection is the first step...When your daughter hollars about it tell her she is old enough to be on her own now and she will just have to get a full time job to pay for her own expenses and oh by the way..She needs to be paying you for rent, food and the water bill, electric bills at your house....Especially since she is backing out of life and not wanting to be responsible for herself....
